Hymenopus coronatus 2nd Instar x 1
Hymenopus coronatus – Orchid Mantis (UK-Bred)
One of the most breathtaking mantids in existence, Hymenopus coronatus — the Orchid Mantis — is a living jewel of the insect world. With delicate petal-like limbs and soft shades of white, pink, and lilac, this species perfectly mimics an orchid blossom. These UK-bred individuals are healthy, well established, and feeding reliably.
What makes them special
Unparalleled beauty: Their flower-like camouflage is so convincing it can fool pollinators in the wild.
Highly sought-after species: A favourite among mantis keepers for its elegance and fascinating behaviour.
Dimorphic adults: Females grow large and ornate, while males are much smaller, more delicate, and highly agile.
Care & housing
Enclosure: Provide a tall, well-ventilated enclosure (at least 3× the mantis’s height) with plenty of climbing space and perches.
Temperature & humidity: Warm conditions around 22- 26°C although they will tolerate fluctuations. Less moisture is better for this species, we only mist them 1 - 2 times per week.
Feeding: Prefers flying prey such as fruit flies, house flies, or small moths. As they grow, they’ll take larger flying insects.
Behaviour: Calm but delicate — avoid overhandling and house individuals separately to prevent aggression or cannibalism.
