Necroscia annulipes 3rd Instar x 6
Necroscia annulipes – Jewelled Stick Insect (UK-Bred)
Elegant, colourful, and easy to keep, Necroscia annulipes — commonly known as the Jewelled Stick Insect — is a slender, beautifully marked species perfect for both beginners and experienced keepers. Their striking blue-green tones and yellow leg bands make them one of the most attractive phasmids available in the hobby.
What makes them special
Beautifully coloured: Stunning blue-green body with distinct yellow and black banding on the legs.
Graceful display species: Peaceful and active, especially in the evening hours.
Medium size: Adults typically reach 8–10 cm — manageable but large enough to appreciate their detail.
Captive-bred in the UK: Healthy, well-established stock raised on privet.
Care & housing
Enclosure: A tall, ventilated enclosure — with plenty of branches for climbing and moulting.
Substrate & environment: Moist substrate such as decaying oak/beech mulch or soil to help maintain humidity. Alternatively capillary matting can be used - while this creates a less natural effect it works exceptionally well to trap in moisture and maintain humidity while also making egg collection much easier.
Mist lightly daily/ every other day depending on temperatures.
Diet: Feeds well on privet or lilac. Make sure to collect plants away from busy roads where toxic residues can build up on the leaves.
Temperature & humidity: Keep warm (22–26 °C) with moderate humidity (60–70%).
Handling: Gentle and docile, though best admired as display insects due to their delicate limbs.
