Mausoleopsis amabilis – White Spotted Flower Beetle

A small but beautifully marked flower beetle species, recognised for its glossy black colouration decorated with distinctive white spots. Their cute size and attractive patterning make them a fascinating display species, particularly when observed feeding or moving amongst flowers and foliage.

Active during the day and constantly exploring their enclosure, these beetles are both attractive and entertaining to keep. Their manageable size and straightforward care requirements make them suitable for both beginner and experienced beetle keepers alike.

Care & housing

Enclosure: A well-ventilated enclosure with branches, bark, and areas for climbing works well. They can also be kept in naturalistic planted setups.

Substrate & environment: A substrate of coco fibre, leaf litter, or decaying wood helps maintain humidity and creates a more natural environment. Substrate should be damp but not saturated for larvae to thrive.

Diet: Adults will feed on a variety of soft fruits and beetle jelly. Pieces of banana, apple, or other sweet fruits are readily accepted. Larvae feed on decaying oak and beech leaves and rotting branches.

Temperature & humidity: Best maintained at around 20–25 °C with moderate humidity. Light misting every few days helps maintain suitable conditions.

Handling: Due to their small size they are best observed rather than handled frequently.
