Diapherodes gigantea – Walking Bean Stick Insects (UK-Bred)
Large, impressive, and surprisingly hardy. They make an excellent display species and are particularly well suited to keepers looking for a larger phasmid that is both rewarding and straightforward to care for.
These UK-bred individuals are healthy, feeding well, and already matured ready to start your own colony.
What makes them special
Impressive size: Adult females can reach over 20 cm in length, making them one of the larger species commonly kept in captivity.
Classic stick insect appearance: Long, slender green bodies provide excellent camouflage amongst foliage.
Hardy species: Tolerant of a range of conditions when cared for correctly, making them suitable for beginners and experienced keepers alike.

Care & housing
Enclosure: A tall, well-ventilated enclosure is essential, with plenty of vertical climbing space for safe moulting.
Temperature: Best kept between 22–26 °C, although they tolerate some fluctuation without issue.
Humidity: Light daily misting helps maintain suitable humidity levels and provides drinking opportunities.
Diet: Feeds readily on bramble, oak, rose, hazel and eucalyptus. Fresh food should always be available.
Handling: Females are generally calm and slow moving and will tolerate careful handling. Males are smaller and tend to be more skittish. Please note that mature males are winged and may attempt to fly away when handled. 
Life cycle
Growth: Nymphs grow steadily and moult several times over the space of 5 - 6 months before reaching adulthood.
Breeding: Adult females will begin laying eggs once mature, with eggs developing over several months before hatching.
Adult lifespan: Adults can live for many months when maintained under suitable conditions. Males tend to be shorter lived (4 - 6 months) wheras females often live longer sometimes reaching ages of 12 months or more.
