Dynastes tityus 1st - 2nd Instar x 1
Eastern Herculese Beetle
Larvae are 1st - 2nd instar
Larvae feed on decayed oak/beech
Rearing time from egg to adult is 15-18 months
Adults will live longer and produce more eggs if given a diapause. This can be achieved by keeping the beetles cool at around 10 - 15 degrees c for 2 - 3 months and then slowly increase the temperatures to 18 - 22 degrees c. during the diapaus the beetles are unlikely to feed but it is a good idea to offer a small ammount of food each week. If you find the adults come to the serface to feed this is a first sign that they are coming out of their diapause.
